Pulse of Europe Neuwied, Demo

“Turn of the times” – nothing is the same anymore…
Pulse of Europe Neuwied kicked off this year’s events on Neuwied’s Luisenplatz on 11.3.23 with a first rally on the annual theme of “Zeitenwende”.
“Turn of the tide,” more than familiar to all of us because of the never-ending Russian war of aggression on Ukraine and its aftermath, is a brutal, daily experience for the people of Ukraine. But it is also a burdensome, increasingly threatening development for us in Europe and for the entire world order. Nothing is the way it was…
The theme attracted many participants, including many Ukrainian women with their children. They all expressed how important it is to them that we think of the people in Ukraine with appreciation and solidarity. Peace, as soon as possible, but at the moment it can only be achieved by helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty. Negotiations are not foreseeable.
In a rally text, the Pulse of Europe Neuwied team pointed out the Russian aggressions and violations of international law in the middle of Europe, which have already claimed thousands of lives, brutal murders, rapes and abductions of children. As a result, hundreds of thousands had to flee their homes.
What this means for Neuwied came up through contributions from volunteers. Werner Hammes reported on the aid provided through the Liebfrauen parish in Heddesdorf. Mayor Peter Jung reported on the services offered by the city of Neuwied and praised the work of the many volunteers from various organizations in the city, without whom the necessary assistance could not be provided. He appealed to those present to support the city, especially in obtaining housing and volunteer assistance. Notes on this can be passed on via sozialamt@neuwied.de.
At the “open microphone,” one participant wondered, concerned, where people get the strength to endure all the terrible things that are happening in Ukraine as a result of the Russian war…”
A Ukrainian participant thanked with touching words for the friendly reception in Neuwied, the encouragement and the everyday help from many sensitive, loving people. That makes it easier, he says. The help is self-evident and yet there cannot be a nicer thank you to the people of Neuwied!
Valentyna Zahranychna from Kramatorsk, another Ukrainian participant, performed a Ukrainian folk song with her beautiful voice, full of melancholy but also full of hope, touching hearts. Another emotional moment. Those present listened with emotion, many tears were shed and a pleasant atmosphere of human cohesion spread. Many thanks to all who participated and contributed!
On 22.4.23 the next demo on the topic “turn of the times” will take place. It will be about climate change and biodiversity. Guest is the Member of the European Parliament Jutta Paulus.
