Demo Last Exit – Europe United

Pulse of Europe Neuwied demo
“Last Exit-Europe United”

The Pulse of Europe Neuwied demonstration today, May 24th, had a different character than usual, because we are all already having daily discussions about the threatening developments in the world, the alienation from familiar alliances, the shattering war scenarios, economic egoisms, extremism and the loss of human values. Last Exit is therefore also a last chance for the European Community to redefine itself, to speak with a common language and to act as one. Only together as Europeans can we defend ourselves against the various hostilities. We know this only too well. All of us, 450 million people in 27 member states, the largest single market in the world, are Europe and must take action together. Reforms are needed, faster votes based on the majority principle, consistent implementation and robust procedures against those who boycott projects out of self-interest.
That is why the demo was less another discussion and more a shared experience in action. The colorful banner as an image of the European Community, united in diversity, and the globe as a sign of Europe’s responsibility for the world as the last beacon of democracy, human rights and the rule of law. The small spheres stood for the 27 member states, whose cohesion is constantly under threat. The challenge was to keep the swinging cloth in motion as a European community without losing a member. Coordinated movement sequences and coordination with the neighbor were the experiences. Nobody stands alone, we act together. It only works together. So at the end of the demo, the jointly sung ode to joy was a confirmation for everyone. It was unmistakable that the fun of the joint action was not neglected.
